Viticulture and Brewing in the Ancient

At the University of California, Berkeley, Henry Frederick Lutz held the positions of associate curator of the Anthropological Museum and professor of Egyptology and Assyriology. Lutz, who is most recognized for his academic writings on the ancient Near East, wrote a more approachable history of viticulture and brewing in the Ancient Near East for a broader readership in his 1922 volume. Lutz contributes to our understanding of the production of alcoholic beverages in the ancient Near East and clarifies the drinking habits of these societies by translating Egyptian hieroglyphs, interpreting tomb drawings and statues, and translating Hebrew and Arabic literature.
