In 1989, a young London-based executive fell in love with an old classic boat that had taken part in the 1940 Dunkirk evacuation and devoted his time and money to her restoration. Three years later, he set out in the same boat on a two-month journey through Continental Europe to the Italian Riviera with his wife and two small children. This is as much a story of their navigation through the rivers and canals of Europe as it is of the inner dynamics of a family in flux.
