Come ‘N’ Play: John’s Children 1974 - 1999 is the fourth instalment in my journey through the bands’ family tree. The branch so far has delved deep in to the history of Jook, Life after Jook, Jet and Radio Stars. To the average music fan, John’s Children are probably famous for having Marc Bolan in their ranks for a short period, releasing ‘Desdemona’ and ‘Midsummer Night’s Scene’ being one of the rarest singles by a British band. However, during their short life in 1966 & 1967, they produced a bunch of extremely underrated songs and were involved in some incredibly wild nights on stage. This publication concentrates on life from 1974, the same year original member’s Andy Ellison and Chris Townson formed Jet. It concludes in 1999 after their final gig of the decade in Ireland having made their comeback in Germany during 1992. During this period, Marc Bolan’s place was taken by then Morrissey guitarist Boz Boorer. The band played nine gigs throughout the 90s of which I attended eight and this included an event across the pond in San Diego. A multitude of cuttings and photos are included, as the bands’ media coverage was stronger than ever.
