Growing up in South East London as the only girl in a strict Irish-Catholic family with her six brothers was by no means easy. Her Journey begins at a tender age and her greatest struggle of all turns out to be Gerri's own mother. She must overcome a power so great and so domineering that she is left a changed, confused and very frightened young person, lost and at times completely alone in the strange world that surrounds her. Gerri experiences things that most people will never have to, and handles them better than most adults could. She travels through life with the hope of something new, something that will allow her to leave her own mark in the world. Life has little or no meaning to her only that she must survive it in one piece.
Gerri has a secret weapon; she uses it so effectively that it proves to be the one thing that keeps her alive.
