Shirts, Skirts, and Skins, is an empowering story about a young African American girl named Taylor. She is strong, confident, and full of personality—she loves fashion, cute headbands, sparkly shoes, and getting her nails done. But more than anything, Taylor has a deep love for basketball.
One day, she excitedly joins the neighborhood boys for a game of "shirts vs. skins," only to be told she can’t play because she’s a girl. Feeling confused and hurt, Taylor runs home, where her mom encourages her to embrace who she is and reminds her that her passion for basketball isn’t defined by others' opinions. Through reflection, prayer, and self-discovery, Taylor realizes that being herself—both fierce on the court and fashionable off it—is her greatest strength.
Written to inspire young girls to chase their dreams boldly, Shirts, Skirts, and Skins challenges stereotypes and celebrates individuality, confidence, and perseverance. It encourages girls to pursue their passions unapologetically, proving that they can be both strong and stylish, competitive and graceful—all at the same time.
