When Glasgow gangster Will McGillivray has a young, lonely, drug user killed, because of a relatively small debt, he believes that he is justified, as it sends a message to others who owe him more. His target, Noel Blythe, was a young English lad who had fallen on hard times, having lost his job as a Nautical Engineering Draughtsman, when one of the shipyards closed. McGillivray believed that very few people would miss him and his body was disposed of in the footings of a new housing development. What McGillivray didn’t know was that one of Noel’s oldest friends was a well connected, Director of a Club in London. Originally from Leeds, David Pine worked for one of the City’s most notorious members of London’s 1960’s gangland, Eric Morris, who was now attempting to find some legitimacy and respectability. When David fails to receive a Birthday card from Noel, a practice they had both adhered to for eighteen years, he begins to have some suspicions that Noel could be in some sort of trouble. Emotional and unprepared, David wades into the Glasgow underworld and starts asking questions. He is a big man and fears no-one, but he hasn’t counted on the network of fear McGillivray has engineered. Tricked into working his way through a busy shopping street, one of McGillivray’s men stabs him in an attempt to kill him. Only David's lightening reflexes save him from certain death and he flees Glasgow, wounded physically and mentally. Realising he needs medical treatment and that he has been cavalier in his approach, he starts to wonder who can help him. His boss is running for a seat on the Council and will not get involved. This only leaves one alternative. Another old friend whom he knows has special skills. Thinking much clearer and harder, he finds his friend, Terry Knight and enlists his help. Terry heads for Glasgow himself, but with a different approach to David. With military precision he leads McGillivray’s men a merry dance, then pounces on one of them, to get the information he needs. He finds the location of Noel’s body, then returns to Leeds and awaits news from David. With David on the mend, they arrange a meet with McGillivray in Liverpool, The meet in Liverpool in an abandoned warehouse is set and and Terry comes up with a plan to trap McGillivray and his men to get a confession. Terry’s skills come to the fore and they and the evidence are neatly wrapped up ready for the Police, where they ultimately face justice.
