La Piccola Regina

She was a queen without love, a mother without power, a foreigner among knives. Catherine de’ Medici crossed the Alps as a child and never again slept in peace. She was denied affection, loyalty, and the throne, but they could not deny her time. She waited. She learned. From the cold halls of the Louvre to the damp shadows of Saint-Denis, her name became a whisper, a spell, a threat. For Catherine did not only reign. She left traces that no fire and no history could erase. Four centuries later, an exhumation breaks the silence. The coffin lid gives way, and with it, the air fills with an ancient stench, with questions left unanswered. What did they seal with silver nails? Why are footsteps still heard by her tomb? La Piccola Regina does not recount a life. It awakens a specter. It reminds the living that some dead refuse to obey oblivion.
