Voyages in Mathematics

ByTristan Denley

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
This book is an attempt to engender a hunger for the development of mathematics, the challenge of an unsolved problem, and the thrill of proving a theorem. Beginning from what are intended to be self-motivating and interesting questions, the reader is led through unfolding solutions. Each solution tells the story of how the ideas came about, in an historical context — an experience which is strengthened by the inclusion of the original texts of many articles and sources. At the conclusion of each section there is a selection of exercises. Many sections contain projects that are designed to encourage an atmosphere of inquiry and creativity, whilst expanding on the proof structures of the articles and material in the text. Each project culminates with the reader’s own proof of some fairly significant result.
