She lost her career chasing a disappearance no one believed. Now it's happening again — and this time she has proof. Three years ago, transit investigator Nora Voss's sister Claire vanished. Nora's insistence that something was wrong with the trains cost her a career and a reputation. Everyone agreed: she'd lost touch with reality. Then an anonymous message puts her on the 12:47 again. The man sitting beside her vanishes mid-journey. Not at a stop. Not through a door. Gone — leaving a coffee still warm in his hand and a briefcase chained to nothing. Every other passenger insists he was never on the train. This time, Nora doesn't rely on memory. She builds a case. She finds a conductor who knows more than he's saying. A woman with medical records on seven patients whose stories shouldn't match — and do. A boy who notices what the adults around him have been trained not to see. And a pattern: the disappearances aren't random. They happen on the same stretch of track, on a schedule, and they've been happening for twenty years. As names change, records rewrite themselves, and the passengers turn out to be connected in ways none of them will admit, Nora realizes the 12:47 isn't haunted. It's run. By someone who calls what happens to these people an asset, not a crime. Somewhere in what's left of Claire — a list, a set of letters, a designation marked P3 — is the proof Nora needs. She has one more ride to get it. The Midnight Train is a psychological thriller about memory, institutional power, and what it costs to prove something everyone has agreed to forget. It's Book One in a trilogy that continues in The Last Stop and concludes in No One Boards Alone. ________________________________________
