Jake the Knife - Les and Daniel II While Les, Daniel, Jake and Martha study in Szeged, there is student demonstration in Budapest. The students are joined by protesting workers, standing up against injustices in Communism. They want Hungary to be free country, free from Soviet Russian rule. Stalin is dead. They think that there is hope. But the secret police and Russian soldiers shoot into the crowd. The protest becomes uprising. Tanks try to fight back, but Hungary becomes free for over a week. Tanks retreat. Les and his friends hitchhike to Budapest. On the way they see that peace is not certain, not secure. They are right. The tanks attack again. Tragedy strikes. Do they escape?
