El Ombu

The book receivves its name from the first story in the book. In "El ombu" an old man recounts own life and the notable stories of those he encountered during his decades spent living on and around a rural estate in colonial Argentina. The vignettes are often bittersweet, and rarely without tragedy, but they combine to provide a compelling picture the narrator's own character and compassion towards others.
