An epic historical novel set during the English Wars of the Roses. It tells the story of the first ten years of the reign of King Edward the Fourth from his seizure of the Throne at the age of nineteen amidst the blizzards of the battle of Towton, to the climactic struggles at Barnet and Tewkesbury and his final meeting in the Tower of London with the King he deposed.
In these ten years he suffers a series of extremes of fortune unmatched by any other English monarch. Some are brought about by his own actions, some by the treachery of others including members of his own family.
His two brothers, Richard of Gloucester and George of Clarence grow into manhood in the midst of this epic dynastic struggle for the English Crown.
And over it all hovers the presence of Warwick the Kingmaker, the most powerful man in the land.
