This Book shares my experience as a medical student, resident in psychiatry, emergency room physician, and expert in psychiatry from 1970 to the present in Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Texas, California Alaska, and the State of Washington through the lens of an expert witness in a court of law. The book describes the state of the art of psychiatry in the context of bad science, and the absence of cures, and a failure rate of about a third or more. The client with mental illness is left with the task of learning to live with the symptoms of mental illness and the side effects of the medications. Some do better than others. Having worked in prisons and forensic psychiatric hospitals, I have observed malingering criminals and mentally ill treatment failures commingle in a dangerous environment. Injury and death are doled out among the criminals, mentally ill, and health care providers where justice is merely Just Us.
