Toward Soviet America

Toward Soviet America by William Z. Foster, published in 1932, presents the Communist Party USA’s vision for transforming the United States into a socialist state. It critiques capitalism, particularly in the wake of the Great Depression, and praises the Soviet Union’s development. Foster argues against reforming capitalism and instead advocates for a revolutionary shift toward a socialist government modeled after the USSR. The book reflects the Communist Party’s stance during the Third Period and its opposition to the Socialist Party. Later in his life, Foster distanced himself from the book, acknowledging that some of its views were outdated. However, it was reprinted in 1961 by the House Un-American Activities Committee, which used it as evidence of Communist objectives in the U.S.
