Canon Fodder

A king trespasses in the sacred woods, and is cut down. His chief huntsman, an untrustworthy scoundrel, is accused and held, though he pleads his innocence. The duke, a notorious atheist and unbeliever, holds the key to the huntsman's freedom. The high priests cry for vengeance; the gods are angry and their thirst for sinners' blood will be sated! Will the duke find the true assassins, even if it means learning the hated priests were right all along? Shape-changers, talking birds, and wild naked monks will block the truth as best they can; will the duke find answers in time to save the huntsman's life? Will he recant his lack of faith if it means could the king can be avenged?
