Rev. Fr. Burnell F. Eckardt Jr., M.Div., STM, Ph.D., the pastor of Saint Paul’s Evangelical-Lutheran Church, Kewanee, Illinois (LCMS), has been the editor-in-chief of Gottesdienst: the Journal of Lutheran Liturgy since 1995. He received his PhD from Marquette University in 1991, concentrating in historical theology with concentrations in the medieval and Reformation eras. Both of his masters’ degrees are from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and his bachelor’s degree is from the University of Wisconsin. He has taught as a visiting professor for Concordia Theological Seminary both at home and abroad, at Lutheran Theological Seminary in Novosibirsk, Siberia. He is also author of The New Testament in His Blood: A Study of the Holy Liturgy of the Christian Church (Kewanee, Ill.: Gottesdienst, 2010), of Every Day Will I Bless Thee: Meditations for the Daily Office was published (Sussex, Wis.: Concordia Catechetical Academy, 1998), and of Anselm and Luther on t
