The author is a medical doctor specialized in obstetrics and gynaecology but has developed an interest in medical history and the history of the Crusades writing a number of professional books and academic papers relating to these topics. A member of the Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem and serving as the Grand Archivist and Historian of the Order, he has delved into the history of that Order preparing a number of academic monographs about the subject. He has pursued his fascination with the Order by writing this historical novel based around the historical scenario traversing the beginning of the fourteenth century.
