About
Rowena Paxton

Planet Afryca was founded in 1999 by two close friends, Rowena Paxton and Sue Hart of Daktari fame. At the heart of their friendship and business relationship was a mutual passion for nature, in particular, the African bushveld where they both lived. They believed that no other part of the planet is as beautiful or as diverse as wild Africa. Sue Hart qualified as a vet at the Royal Veterinary College in London in 1950. Her love of animals and her attraction to Africa meant that she was always destined to live there. Sue always knew that Africa was destined to be her home. She practised as a country vet in the north eastern corner of South Africa. Living so close to the world-renowned Kruger National Park, she further developed her interest in wildlife. Her marriage took her to Kenya to work as a Daktari or ‘bush doctor’ in Swahili. In Kenya Sue met and worked with George Adamson of Born Free fame. Her patients included Boy and Girl, the famous lions.
