David J. Carr was born in Enfield and raised in East Kent from the age of five. A former Chatham House Grammar School pupil (1967–1973), he began his career as a radiographer before moving into pharmaceutical research, electronics procurement, and the design and manufacture of domestic electrical appliances. He later became Head of User Technology in Higher Education, retiring in 2012. David has long been active in community life, serving as Chairman of Eastry Parish Council, as a Member of Ramsgate Town Council, and as Hon. Secretary of the Old Ruymians’ Club. His first book, The Chatham House Story, now in its third edition, reflects his commitment to local history and the heritage of grammar school education. He is also the author of the Sellingate Trilogy. The first novel, The Sellingate Grammar Mystery, introduced readers to the world of Sellingate Grammar School, blending atmosphere, suspense, and staffroom intrigue. The second, The Sellingate Grammar Secret, continues the story and is now entering worldwide distribution. David is currently writing the third instalment, The Sellingate Grammar Legacy, which completes the trilogy’s internal timeline. He lives in Ramsgate with his wife, Elizabeth, and continues to pursue photography, historical research, and heritage projects.
