About
David J Carr

David J. Carr has spent his life exploring ideas, communities, and stories. A former Chatham House Grammar School pupil (1967–1973), he began his working life as a radiographer before moving through an eclectic career spanning pharmaceutical research, electronics procurement for the Rank Organisation and GEC, and the design and manufacture of domestic electrical appliances for Clairol, Black & Decker, Philips, Boots and Rowenta. He later became Head of User Technology in Higher Education, retiring in 2012. Community has always been central to David’s life. He has served as Chairman of Eastry Parish Council and as a Member of Ramsgate Town Council, contributing to local life with the same enthusiasm he brings to his personal passions. Photography has been a constant thread since childhood, beginning with his mother’s 127 camera. In retirement he returned to the craft professionally, becoming an accredited sports photographer with work appearing in several publications. A lifelong admirer of local history, David joined the Old Ruymians’ Club committee and soon found himself writing his first book, The Chatham House Story, bringing together decades of memories, research, and affection for the school that shaped him. He is currently writing his first novel, one to look out for in 2026: The Sellingate Grammar Mystery...
