I am an Irish writer who is intensely interested in what happens in a society where there is an apparent indifference and apathy to change things. The things that happened in Ireland during the recent financial collapse are nothing new to some of us. In the 50s and goingduring the great Famine in, 1847, the Irish have failed to take stock of the situation and act to defend their way of life in time. The Fr Mc Dyer story is a story about a Irish priest, who tried to take charge of a tiny parish and haul it up by the boot straps to prosperity. This is a story about creating spiritual capital where religion alone does not hold the whole answer. As a poet and someone who hates the inhuman suffering brought on by political failure I have tried to give an account of a period, when one man tried to make a difference in the most heroic way imaginable at the time. Some people say he failed, we all know that failure is only a prelude to success and change. Yesterdays rebel is today's innovator.
