Born in Montreal to an English-Canadian father and a French-Canadian mother, Gerry Christmas immigrated to the United States at the age of two. He subsequently lived in New England, Florida, and Utah before joining the Peace Corps. After living and working in Thailand, Samoa, Japan, and the People's Republic of China, he returned to the United States to teach. In 2013 he retired to Bangkok, Thailand.
