Marie Benge Craig
Marie is a retired math teacher who moved to Davie County, NC, in 2004. She was a volunteer in the history room of Davie County Public Library and compiled their school records with personal interviews, published works, scanned photographs, and county statistics to create her first book, History of Davie County Schools. This book won two state awards in 2011-- from NC Society of Historians and NC Genealogical Society. She has since written eleven more history books about Davie County. She has been a director of a senior citizen chorus, was past president of Friends of the Library, and is newsletter editor and Webmaster of Davie County Historical and Genealogical Society. Marie has 25 years experience as a volunteer in FamilySearch Centers. Her second book, Davie County in World War One, includes biographies of the 670 men and 3 women from Davie who went to war, 361 photos, interviews, local newspaper articles, description of training camps, letters written home, and index of 3,112 names. 416 pages. This book won 2 awards from NC Society of Historians -- the Willie Parker Peace History Book Award and the President's Award.
