A freelance writer since 1957, Harley Sachs is the prize-winning author of numerous novels, short stories, magazine articles and newspaper columns. After US Army service at the end of the Korean war he took the remainder of his GI Bill to Sweden where he served under cover for several years. He married his Danish-German wife Ulla in Stockholm and they left on what became a year-long honeymoon that ended at Borthwick Castle in Scotland where their first daughter was born. Though at times they were homeless and lived in a car, freelance writing through Europe, he taught many years as a college professor, took early retirement from Michigan Technological University and has since published more than thirty books including three memoirs of his adventures, numerous novels, short stories, and scores of newspaper columns He and his wife of over fifty years now live in a retirement center in Portland, Oregon.
