About
J G Parkes
Born in Hull, East Yorkshire and educated there at Hull Grammar School. Left at 16 to go into the theatre. National Service in the RASC, but spent the two years attached to the War Office in London. Back to the theatre, then into cinema management in Glasgow after marrying a Scots girl. Began writing around this time, short stories and a couple of books. The stories were published in a now defunct magazine. Eventually moved to Inveraray, Argyll where I worked as a costumed guide in Inveraray Jail, a museum of 19th century prison life. I wrote several short books about the prisoners, including a couple on transportation to Australia. Also I am the author of 'Flurry and Fin Out', set amongst the Hull whalers of the 19th century. Now retired, with my wife, to the Mediterranean island of Malta.
