Mairtin O'Riain is a prolific lyricist, poet, songwriter and artist who has also been a long time supporter and advocate of independent music and musicians. After a long absence from public life Mairtin formed The Ryan O'Riain 22 in 2006 to highlight the explosion of creativity sweeping through the independent musical communities of Los Angeles, Kansas and New York in the USA, Saskatoon and Montreal in Canada, London, Glasgow and Southampton in the UK and especially in Ireland, a land overflowing with world class creative musical talent. From 2008 until 2010 the playlist of artists featured by Mairtin in the site consistently topped the top ten of the UK rock, indie and all genre charts on MySpace where the site became well known for 'finding the best bands on the planet' long before any label.
