Like many couples, my wife and I have too much stuff and too little space, and so have become hooked on the easy accommodation that storage lockers provide. While loading and unloading my humble boxes I’m often distracted by ‘what’s in the unit next door’. The TV show 'Storage Wars' has made storage shenanigans trendy, but back in the early 00's after watching a homeless woman bed down in a nearby unit I conceived of Lockyer Own Storage – a novel where every locker tells a story. Having a day job and a young daughter meant that I had to write wherever and whenever I had 15 minutes to spare and a fairly comfortable seat - be it the Wigan-Liverpool line while living in the UK, or the Alameda Ferry in California. Like my childhood writing hero Jack Kerouac, that feeling of always going SOMEWHERE made the process simple. I hope you enjoy reading Lockyer Own Storage as much as I did writing it.
