About
Peter Symons

Have you ever wanted to brew or taste legendary ales, porters, stouts, and lagers from the past? My books explore the heritage and forgotten flavours that once defined the world’s beers. Archived Brews is your master key to unlock sixty historic beers from before styles were invented—when every brewery crafted its own unique flavour. Each recipe is derived from original records, showing what made these beers special and how they can be brewed again. True Blue Brews, the Second Editions of Bronzed Brews, and 6 O’CLOCK Brews describe an extensive range of recipes for historic Australian beers, while Guile Brews explores traditional Cornish, Irish, and English beers, including those from St Austell, and Devenish–Redruth Breweries, Flowers, Banks’s, and Murphys. I’m always keen to hear from anyone who may have brewery records, logs, or recipes—details of malt, hops, sugars, and processes—to bring more beer history back to life. Peter’s passion for rediscovering historic beers borders on obsession. He is a member of the Beer Culture Center League of Historians and has presented Beer in the Land Down Under and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark: A History of Australian Stout, both available on the Beer Culture Center YouTube channel. Cheers!
