Lola LaFontaine read her first romance novel at age fourteen in Kincardine Ontario. Her first blush with the genre had a lasting impression, as this is her second novella. On what women want, she writes: “What do women want? We want to follow romance like stag in the night: to see his eyes in the light, to walk alongside him, to ride him, to catch him... Yet, the balconies of Paris cannot sustain stags, and so, nous devrions vouloir le laisser partir...”
