About
toon van eijk
Dr. Toon van Eijk (born in 1952) is a tropical agronomist who worked more than twenty years in Eastern and Southern Africa. He was born and raised on a small farm in The Netherlands. He studied at Wageningen Agricultural University (M.Sc. 1978; Ph.D. 1998). He worked on long-term assignments in Mozambique, Kenya, Zambia and Tanzania. In addition he was engaged in many short-term assignments in Africa and Central Asia. Today he is retired and writes about the multi-dimensional aspects of development. He is especially interested in the relationship between sustainable development, philosophy of science, behavioural change, and experiential spirituality. In his view the multi-dimensional process of development can only be understood and guided from a holistic perspective, that encompasses materialistic and mental aspects. We need to go beyond treatment of symptoms to make poverty history. Development is about changes in individual and collective behaviour.
