Tom Palotas began writing on Shivabalayogi shortly after the yogi first visited the United States. Swamiji had an early draft manuscript, "Darshan", published in Bangalore in 1990. The following year he asked Tom to write "Tapas Shakti." Tom traveled extensively throughout India, the UK, and the USA to write "Divine Play" (Lotus Press, 2004). He also collected and wrote the detailed history and experiences of Shivabalayogi published as "Swamiji's Treasure" (2007). Shivabalayogi often referred devotees to "Yoga Vasishta", the spiritual treatise that he described as best preserving the original teachings of a yogi. Tom edited the complete, 1891 translation by V. L. Mitra into a more readable, modern English.
