A birdwatcher is certain she saw a man shot. There’s just one problem: when the police investigate, they find the supposed victim alive and well. They dismiss her story. Unwilling to doubt her own eyes, she hires private eye Harry Bittercress to uncover the truth. But he finds nothing either, and she all but abandons the matter. Then she meets a male model who unbuttons his shirt for a living, and life sweeps her off in a new direction. But what about that shooting? Might something come of it after all?
