DELAG - a history

This first ever in-depth look at the DELAG commercial operations draws on a wide range of original sources, from log books and papers in private collections, to contemporary books written by some of those directly involved in the company. But perhaps the most important source of original material has been newspaper archives. Within Germany over the last five years or so, there has been a remarkable programme of digitising early newspapers, and making these freely available online. This programme has opened up a window into the past that allows us to examine, in depth, the daily running of the company with astonishing accuracy. It allows us to look beyond the company hype and piece together the reality behind the success or otherwise of DELAG as a commercial concern. Here then is the story of DELAG by those who lived it.
