Parrie Haynes Ranch: A Promise Kept is a richly documented history of one of Central Texas’s most remarkable ranches and the charitable legacy created by Parrie Lee McBryde Haynes. Drawing on court records, deeds, maps, historic photographs, newspaper accounts, family history, and firsthand memories, BJ Stone traces the ranch’s story from the Haynes and McBryde families through the creation of a trust intended to benefit Texas children. The book also preserves the stories of the people who have lived, worked, volunteered, ridden, worshiped, camped, and gathered at Parrie Haynes Ranch across generations. Historic structures, trails, the Lampasas River, community events, and personal reflections reveal why so many visitors describe the ranch with one simple word: “Peace.” More than a history of land and buildings, this is the story of a promise, a community, and the continuing effort to preserve a place whose legacy reaches far beyond its boundaries.
