The Christmas Truce

December 1914, and the soldiers of The Royal Welch face the the enemy troops of the Prussian Regiment across the frozen mud of No-Mans Land. With the more seasoned Captain Robert Cromlech, newcomer Wilfred embarks on his first foray into No-Mans-Land - and capture. They think their war is over. But it is Christmas, and a time for miracles. The sound of gunfire is replaced by the singing of carols, the enemy soldiers come out of their trenches. Not to fight, but to play football. Not to shoot but to share food and drink. Not to hate but to come together in friendship in a Christmas Truce, and to find that they had more in common, than they realised, with their brothers-in-arms from the opposite trench. Based on true events, this is a play for Middle School children in remembrance of the day, a century ago, when enemy soldiers celebrated Christmas together, and rose above the tragedy of war.
