Los Barcos (The ships) - LAMENTO FOR SOLO VIOLA AND STRING ORCHESTRA OPUS 58. The Opus 58 ‘Lamento for solo Viola and String in G minor’ was written in May 2013 and premiered that same year at the Lía Bermúdez Art Center of Maracaibo on June 26th, along with the Opus 57 operetta named ‘El Camarón Encantado’. The diaphanous melody of the theme exposed by the strings presents the image of a Passacaglia, a recurrent theme in other works of the author. In a back and forth movement originated by the ternary pattern of 9/8, composer takes us to a trip in which the water, represented in the harmonic argument of the string, is the support that invites us to navigate on the boats - characterized by the solo Viola - that leave from a marina to introduce us to the great absolute mystery of the sea. The increasingly complex variations of the Viola establish a dialogue with the rest of the strings that increase dramatically but let us elucidate the hope that we are not yet lost, that someone in some port always awaits us.
