A saga of family life amongst the fishing community of Hull from the 1880s to 1950s. Will Green goes to sea on a fishing smack, gets married and founds a dynasty. Billy follows his father to sea, Harry disdains the life, whilst Elsie becomes ashamed of her background. But the smell of fish is strong and Will is only the first of four generations who harvest the North Sea and Arctic waters. Tragedy and drama are never far away, but neither are joy and love.
