On a cold, grey, miserably misty December 18th 1995, fate dumped me unceremoniously on the tarmac at Ningbo International Airport. 14 hours previously it was still mid summer in New Zealand. Had I been able to speak Chinese I would have not left the airport, but bought a ticked back to where I had come from. This place was, noisy, dirty, pushy, shovey, cold and grey and miserable. In short: GRIM. I did not speak Chinese and I was whisked away to a cold, grey and miserable building a couple of hours away. That sort of sealed it. A new challenge and BOY! What a challenge. If you like to be challenged, I thoroughly recommend China. It tests you in every single way you could imagine, and then some. Is it worth it? Yes, oh yes. Would I do it again? No, emphatically no!
