An American jazz impressionistic piano solo composed by Michael Guy in 1986 that paints a quiet day in a small southern town. It is based on the transcription of the old town clock that would chime out the opening melody. A set of dynamic variations follows, that alternate in harmonic texture and soft and loud dynamics. The ending is an extensive jazz improvisation or cadenza that is written down that captures a pianist that may have been playing Gershwin or similar music.
Difficulty is college or professional level (at least 10 years piano experience)- About 6' long.
