The Fire Reapers

Ahead of him a sort of ragged opening was appearing, as if someone was tearing a hole in the smoke. And licking round the opening—leaping red and orange flames, hissing and crackling. Neil felt as if he was going to throw up. The room, the whole house, seemed to be spinning round him. He staggered and fell. The floor tilted beneath him and he slid toward the opening. He opened his mouth to scream but nothing came out .... Mega-forest fires, millions of acres of dead trees, and a cult-like government that’s torching the world’s remaining forests ... Is this really what the north will look like in the near future?
