Behind every locked door is a story. Set in a self-storage facility near dot-com era San Francisco, Lockyer Own Storage is a satirical novel of hope, alienation, and gutsy determination in the face of forced evictions, layoffs and insider trading. The novel follows ten main characters who rent neighboring units at a storage facility on journeys as varied and personal as the contents of their lockers. The tenants, who include a dope peddler, single boho-mom, philandering husband, and bumbling biochemist are shepherded by the unlikely duo of Winnie Hopewell, a bag-lady who plays agony aunt from her live-in storage locker and the eponymous manager Bill Lockyer who strings them along like junkies, fixing renters from locker to locker until catastrophe hooks them to the mainline – the expensive twelve-by-twelve garage.
